There are lots of owners in denial out there about their fat dogs. Lots of extra vet bills, and it shortens our time with them. I’s glad to say I weigh mine monthly, and adjust their food to make sure they aren’t gaining weight (unless they need to, which is rare), and they very rarely get table food. Treats are a pellet of their dog food (dont tell them). Really helpful article in Wall Street Journal about how to know if your dog is fat, tother tips, etc. Read it here. Rescue sends me the fat dogs, Because I help them lose the weight. My time with them fostering is short, but their permanent parent needs to love them for as long as possible. It’s easy to get bad knees and legs also, and the weight is so hard on that.

Lots of Fat Dogs-Lots of Owners In Denial
Thursday, March 17th, 2011Weigh In Monthly!
Wednesday, June 9th, 2010Ready to Weigh! We weigh every month and daddy adjusts our food, and then tells everyone at work to not give us treats if we’ve gained weight. That’s not good! But he says he wants us to be healthy and trim, so we can run fast and live a long time to be his best friends. This is Arthur, he’s almost the biggest Cavalier foster we ever had, he weighed 34 pounds and needed to lose 10 pounds. imagine losing almost a third of your body weight! He got a new family in 5 weeks, but he lost 5 pounds in those 5 weeks, and looked so good and the vet was happy. Daddy says they give him the fat dogs ’cause he resists the big eyes begging for food.
